Inevitable consequences of the IRGC blacklisting

Inevitable consequences of the IRGC blacklisting

The Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) in Iran has been designated as a foreign terrorist organization

April 10, 2019 - The US government announced on Monday it would add the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, IRGC, to the list of Foreign Terrorist Organizations. The blacklisting of the IRGC is considered one of the most important events in the history of FTO designations and has been covered on a wide scale by the international news media.
The official announcement of this designation alone and its going into effect next week has been considered a new and important development. This is so important that it can be considered as one of the most significant milestones of the year.
The Islamic Republic, on the anniversary of the U.S. exiting the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, JCPOA, entered a new era that would considerably tilt the international balance of power against the mullahs’ regime. The important elements of this move can be evaluated from various reactions after the official announcement.

The undeniable role of the Iranian Opposition
To study the events leading to the FTO designation of the IRGC, one should consider the Iranian opposition’s international activities. It has been many years since the Iranian opposition, and especially Maryam Rajavi, President of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), have called for this designation, calling upon the U.S. and European governments to stop the appeasement policy with the mullahs’ regime and the IRGC, and to blacklist this entity as a terrorist organization.
To this effect, so many books and documents have been published and dozens of conferences featuring current and former American and European officials been held in the U.S. and Europe. The fact of the matter is, as far as the Iranian people’s political and the national interests are concerned, this designation has long been overdue. The Iranian people and the Resistance have paid a heavy price with their lives and assets, which are irreparable. It is undeniable that this important event is a result of one of the Iranian opposition’s greatest diplomatic efforts, and its steadfastness and continued-struggle toward the Iranian people’s national interest in the history of Iran.

The impact of this phenomenon
When this designation goes into effect next week, one of the main tools of the Ayatollahs’ repressive, tyrannical and criminal policies in Iran receive a strong political, military, financial and communicational blow. Iranian regime Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei will see a significant defeat delivered to the IRGC, which it considers as a main and vital artery of his regime’s survival.
Moreover, the mullahs’ scandalous plundering policies are robbing the nation’s wealth to spend on the export of terrorism and fundamentalism into the region and the world. This approach will also suffer significantly. The clerical regime’s legal and operational arms would also be significantly weakened. In addition, the appeasement policy towards the murdering mullahs ruling Iran would also be hit with an extensive setback that would only benefit the people of Iran, the Middle East region and other countries suffering from the malign influence of the terrorist IRGC.
Furthermore, the Iranian regime’s internal, regional and international postures in killing, maiming, plundering and hostage-taking activities would breakdown significantly. This would change the final balance of power to the advantage of the nation’s uprising and enhance the status of the Iranian opposition.

Bullies stemmed from fears
The terrorist designation of the IRGC must be considered as taking the regime’s controversy and core problems in Iran, the region and Asia to a new level of international concern. The reactions of the Iranian regime officials and its allies clearly show its concern and anxiety to the extent that they try to bully and blackmail the international community through resorting to lies and deceptions. Of course, behind the curtain of all these boasts and arrogance lies the fatal effect of the terrorist designation of IRGC.

Inevitable consequences for the mullahs’ regime
Another side of the magnitude, seriousness and the comprehensive significances of the FTO designation could be summed up by Jason Blazakis’ comments published on April 5 in The Wall Street Journal. Mr. Blazakis, who until last year served as director of the State Department’s Counterterrorism Finance and Designations Office, said never before has part of a government been included in the FTO list. This designation will have major implications in the future.
